Location Vans

When pre-producing a complex shoot many of our clients opt for a no-frills location van to accompany them to the pre-pro site. This part of the work has less to do with glam and more to do with grit and many of our clients need a workhorse that can do the job of hosting crew, cast, even top talent, for the day or so of preparations. They all agree that On Time Elite has got New York City’s location vans covered. Makeup artists, stylists, production assistants, executives and even top celebrities make one of our location vans their office, their studio, or their leisure lounge of choice.

A location van is an industry term for a small to mid-sized production trailer that can travel with a small crew and some cast to a location and offer a variety of solutions—often in less-than-convenient situations—during the pre-production stage. We think that a great location van has a little bit of everything without going overboard in any one direction. A location van should have enough makeup stations, plenty of wardrobe racks, some convenient work areas with lots of power outlets, a decent amount of screens and entertainment areas, and of course a bathroom and a kitchenette with running water. Last but not least, our location vans sport some powerful ACs throughout, which means they can become cool enough to handle hair, makeup, wardrobe changes or heated production discussions.

We normally advise our clients to stay away from too big or too fancy trailers. Although we offer dressing room trailers for rent in all sizes, we usually suggest location vans stick to what they need and conserve their budget for shooting days. Sleeping arrangements are pretty much redundant as are multiple entry points or overly outfitted kitchens and bathrooms. Simple is super in this case. Our Galaxy has a few great features that make it an ideal location van: the front has a 10ft. fully lit makeup station opposite a diner-booth style work area while the back has 18ft. of wardrobe racks and a slide out that makes the back room a cavernous walk-in closet, a roomy changing room or a versatile holding space. The Pearl has double the makeup and workspace and even more seating with a surprising queen-size pull-down bed in the front.

Bottom line, New York location vans come in all shapes, sizes, and colors but only On Time Elite’s location vans are actually full-service buses and trailers with ample work and living space for a makeup artist, a wardrobe stylist, a production crew and even a claustrophobic celebrity. All of our motorhomes feature an expansive layout, smart seating, and clever storage solutions, and they all come with a service attitude that’s rarely seen on a production set. We invite you to try a luxurious experience on your next pre-pro session.
